Getting a SSN and My First Craigslist Experience

So on March 4th, 16 days after I arrived to the US, I applied for my SSN. I came so prepared for it, and I was ready for a battle, because I’ve been hearing all these crazy stories on visajourney about k1 visaholders being denied SSNs so I went equipped with all the necessary paperwork to prove that I was entitled to one. I didn’t even end up needing it, it was such a quick and painless process.

First off you enter the room and get a number and fill out the form (if you haven’t already done so, I already printed the application at home and filled it up) and then just wait for your turn! Once my number was called, I went up to the lady and just told there that I came to the US two weeks ago on a k1 visa and I am now applying for a SSN. She understood right away and began processing it, and in about ten minutes we were done! She just reminded me that I need to go back there along with my marriage certificate and green card so that I can change it to my married name later on πŸ™‚

I linked the forms and the eligibility proof on my AOS post πŸ™‚

Another interesting we did this week was pick up our new mattress which we had to strap to our car’s roof πŸ™‚ (We had just bought a car two weeks ago from Becker Subaru.) The mattress is beautiful! But we had no bedframe and headboard and we knew that the mattress will be more protected if it had some kind of frame, and we looked around and they were just so expensive and not worth it. I got the brilliant idea to check on Craigslist and we ended up seeing the most beautiful headboard and footboard on Craigslist for a really cheap price! I admit, making deals on Craigslist is really shady but luckily we ended up purchasing it from a great couple. The real challenge was getting those headboards to fit in the car but we managed somehow πŸ™‚ Now all we need is to buy a frame and we are finally all set! πŸ™‚
