Graduate School Part Dos

Some updates with my grad school.. After getting into my dream school in Boston, I thought I was set. Tim and I had already started making plans for moving to Boston and he started looking for jobs there on the net. Of course we were a little worried with the cost of living in Boston, topped with the crazy private school tuition fees (In my case it would have been about $51,000 for the 2-year program not including miscellaneous expenses such as books, rent, food, commute etc etc).. In total, I was looking at about $80,000 easily. Gosh.. To be honest, Tim and I are just starting out and we don’t have that kind of money.. I would have to take out thousands of dollars in loans and Tim would have a really hard time balancing living in Boston and working for the PA National Guard.. We were willing to do it of course but I knew that it would be incredibly difficult for us.

About two weeks later I got an email that I got accepted into a PA state school for the same program. The cost would be much much more affordable (tuition is about $30,000) for the 2-year program and the living expenses are also way cheaper.. probably about $50,000 in total, already  including 2 years of rent, food, commute etc.. Plus it was not too far from Tim’s National Guard base.. It just made so much more sense for me to go there. The program was smaller but still very impressive which is why I applied there in the first place. In the end I would still get the same SLP degree without being in a lot of debt.. It’s a great school with a great atmosphere and I loved the small-town vibe that I got when we visited to pay my deposit. Another good thing was that my friend from the Philippines got into the same program that I did, which means that I would already have a friend even when Tim deploys. It all just kind of worked out and fell into place. 🙂

It was very difficult for me to decline one school but in the end I had to be practical about it too. :/

Tim and I already went around the area and found a great apartment for us to move into this fall. I’m very excited to start this new chapter of my life, as a married woman and a graduate student. At this moment, I can proudly say that I will be living my dream 🙂

Ahhhhhhhhhh so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

Congrats! I’m just beginning my journey at my dream school but God made it so that I couldn’t turn this opportunity down! I’m about halfway through my first semester and buried in paperwork! But honestly, I can’t think of any other place I’m supposed to be right now.
I can’t wait to read about the rest of your journey.
