Conquering Mt. Vesuvius

I’ve become a fan of the show “Man Vs Food” and it just so happened that Timmy was home watching it with me when they featured Philadelphia in that particular episode. Of course, the main staple featured on the show was the Philly Cheesesteak (Predictable, right?) but that wasn’t what caught our eye. We were really intrigued by Mt.Vesuvius, the delicious mountain of ice-cream goodness from Franklin Fountain. It was vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream, hot fudge, fudge brownies and malt powder.. What else could you possibly ask for?? It looked so good that we just had to try it! So the next day, off to Philly we went! The only thing I can say now was that it was truly worth the drive! I would recommend it to anyone who was visiting Philly. 🙂

The only other thing I’d like to add is a comment about the show Man Vs Food. I find it amazing that the host can eat all that food, sometimes meals that are 1-7 pounds, all in one sitting.. and for what? Just to show that he can eat all that food in an hour, for him to say that “Man won!” and take pride in having his photo put on the wall or win a T-Shirt. If you think about it, a 7 pound meal could have fed a whole family, but here in America, the land of excess and waste, food is just a game, a challenge. It’s not that I think the show is bad, I have to admit, it is very entertaining, I just think this reflects upon the US as a whole. While other countries are starving, this country glorifies gluttony. While people in other countries die of starvation, America has one of the highest obesity rates. Just something to think about.. ^.^

Steph, I so agree with you!! It makes me really sad… there was another show (I can’t remember what it’s called) where a man travels to different countries and tries their food, on one episode he goes to Ethiopia, and people there actually fight over rotten trees to eat it, and camel meat! Unbelievable, and here, food goes bad in the fridge or pantry before they even open its package. It’s amazing even the pets are fat and need diet and exercise prescribed by the vet!,

    Crazy world..

OMG! That’s so sad.. We should really be thankful that we are so blessed to have all this food to eat..
