It was the best of times, It was the worst of times

Tim’s leave just came and went. It was a blur and it went by so fast. I am so glad that we got to spend that week together. It was magical, memorable and by far the best week I’ve spent since he left last September. Now we have no more leave to look forward to until his return 9 months from now, which sucks, but at least we made the best of what we have. Here’s a recap of how our week went.

Monday, 11/19

My in-laws and I picked him up from Newark 5 hours earlier than expected!! US Airways waived the Move-Up fee for him and let him take the earlier flight. That was such a pleasant suprise!! We spent the afternoon just cuddling and relaxing and it was truly wonderful. No words can explain the joy I felt that day upon seeing my husband. It wasn’t easy knowing I only had him for 6 days, but it was still a happiness like no other.

When we got to our bedroom at his parents place, we found a pre-shower present from his parents. It was a couple of recordable storybooks for Tim to do so that the baby and I could hear his voice while he was away. It was such a sweet and perfect present. We worked on it right away.

Tuesday, 11/20

Drove back really early to Bloomsburg.. I had to attend a short thesis meeting. This was the only time in the entire week that Timmy and I were apart for a few hours. But its okay, because he wanted to see our place. After all, when Tim comes back from deployment, we would no longer be living there which is pretty crazy to think about. After the meeting, Tim and I did some chores around the house.. He taught me how to do the recycling, we set up the carseat and stroller and he helped drain the hair on the bathtub.. Pretty romantic lol. But when your husband is deployed, you don’t realize these little things! They have to get done, only now you just have yourself to rely on.

Timmy in front of our apartment.. When he comes back we won’t be living there anymore because I’ll be done with school. It’s really sad when we think about it, because this was our first home. It’s sad that he will miss out on moving and stuff, but what can we do…

In the afternoon we had lunch at Balzano’s around town and then we had an awesome maternity photo shoot! We took family portraits with my growing belly. They were beautiful! I will post the pictures in a separate blog post once they come out.. I am so excited to see it πŸ™‚ After the shoot we ate dinner at our favorite Hibachi restaurant in town and then we saw Skyfall (awesome movie!). Tuesday was a beautiful relaxing day with Timmy. πŸ™‚

Wednesday, 11/21

Another day in Bloomsburg! We woke up and had breakfast at our favorite diner (as you can tell he wanted to go to all his favorite spots lol) and then we had another meeting with our doula, Virginia. Virginia has so kindly offered her services to be a labor coach and be there the entire labor and delivery because Tim is missing the birth, and its my first baby so I am terrified of childbirth. She has eased my worries so much and we are so blessed to have found her. Today she came and talked to us about caring for a newborn, and she taught us how to dress the baby, change diapers and so on.. Here is the cutest photo of Timmy that I took! He looked adorable! I can already tell that he will be a great dad. πŸ™‚Image

Timmy and I then spent the afternoon just relaxing, and we did the grocery so that he could help me carry the heavy groceries. (Grocery shopping while pregnant is by far one of the suckiest things I have to do while he’s deployed, because carrying the bags to the house is not fun). We rented a movie on Redbox and just cuddled the entire night. πŸ™‚

Thursday, 11/22

We drove up to his grandparent’s place and had awesome food with the family.. It was nice to be with everyone and we had a great time. I knew this would be his last holiday for a while, so I was really glad that Tim got to spend time with his family and I’m sure they all appreciated it too. πŸ™‚ After that we drove to his sister’s place and we hung out there for a while with the babies before heading back to his parent’s place for the night. It was a busy day but filled with love and fun.

Friday, 11/23

Black Friday! – No, we did not dare waste our time together by joining the craziness of Black Friday. Tim wanted to get me an iPad because he got one for free through his masters program at Marywood, and I knew I would eventually need one for work and to be able to do FaceTime with him while he was deployed.. So we just ordered it only from the Apple Store.. Stress free shopping! It was $40 off, with free engraving and shipping so I think we still got a great deal because we got to spend time together instead of spending hours lining up just to save a few bucks.

After that he helped me get the oil changed for the car, so that hopefully I will be good to go for the next couple of months. Tim is so sweet because he is constantly thinking of me and he really wants this deployment to be as painless for me as possible. πŸ™‚

At 1pm, we drove to Womb With a View at Lehigh Valley for my ultrasound. This was a surprise I planned for Timmy so that he could see the baby one more time! (I forgot to add that this whole week the baby has been kicking like crazy so he did get to feel the baby move a lot- which was a great feeling). I can’t stress enough how amazing this experience was. The sonographer was very professional and he got great shots of the baby! We couldn’t believe how beautiful baby Johhny was! We just can’t wait to meet him. It was such a memorable and touching moment to see our baby. πŸ™‚

I think he looks just like his daddy!

After the ultrasound, we just spent the night relaxing again. πŸ™‚

Even the puppies missed Timmy!

Saturday, 11/24

Baby Johnny’s shower!

We had another shower for Johnny, and its amazing to see how much loved he already is! He is truly our miracle baby the one thing that keeps me and Timmy going despite all the challenges and hardships we are facing. This baby is keeping us strong and gives us purpose. πŸ™‚ We got almost everything we wanted from our registry!

This was such a fun day! Family came and celebrated with us, and they all wished Tim well for his deployment. It was bittersweet because by then I was definitely feeling down already because I knew this was our last full day together. But I was determined to make it count, and we did!

Sunday, 11/25

The saddest day of my life. 😦

Yesterday was tough. It was exhausting, heartbreaking and just plain awful. We got ready to go to the airport, and when we got there US Airways generously gave me and my in-laws gatepasses so that we could accompany Tim all the way to his gate.. We tried to make it a happy goodbye, but it was just so hard and painful. How do you say goodbye to your husband for 9 months? How do you watch someone walk away and know that it will be 9 months before you get to hug and kiss him again? You just can’t.. Thinking about it now just makes me sad again. I love you Timmy, and I miss you.. I miss you so much that it hurts! But I will be strong and get through this, for you and the baby!

So there it is.. Today is now Monday.. and now I have to find my “new normal” again. I have to somehow survive each day knowing that my husband isn’t coming home. But its just 9 months.. It’s nothing we can’t handle. Our love and our bond is stronger than this!

All I ask is that you stay safe and take care of yourself while you are there.. Don’t worry about us, baby and I will be just fine. We will be here waiting for your safe return. πŸ™‚

Hi, I have a K1 visa related question for you. I know you applied for grad school and it’s what I’m hoping to do this fall too. In your DS 156K form, there is a question regarding if you’re intending to go to school in the U.S. Did you answer yes to that?
